Homeware sales fell again on the high street, marking a fifth straight week of negative sales.
According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales fell 0.84% for the week ending 25 May 2025.
Homewares total LFLs declined by -1.86% from a weak base of -1.81% for the same week in 2024, symbolising the category’s fifth consecutive negative result.
Store homewares sales climbed by +5.36% from a positive base of +3.67% for the same week last year, indicative of the category’s second positive result in the past five weeks.
Total store LFL sales slightly decreased by -0.10% from a negative base of -1.92% for the same week in 2024. Total non-store LFL sales grew by +2.70% from a good base of +3.24% for the same week last year.
Commenting on the results, BDO said: “In a week that culminated with the Spring bank holiday weekend, non-store LFL sales climbed into positive territory after four consecutive negative outcomes but failed to boost total LFL sales due to the impact of weak in-store results.
“This week saw clear and cooler weather with some cloud, but remained dry for most, except for some showers. The same week last year experienced Spring showers with moments of sunshine and heavy rains in some areas.”
Overall footfall rose by +1.2% compared to the same week last year. High street footfall grew by +1.9% and shopping centre foot traffic increased by +1.2%. In contrast, retail park footfall dropped by -0.5%.
