Homeware high street sales remain positive for ninth week

Homeware sales rose again on the high street for a ninth consecutive week.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 3.29% for the week ending 31 August 2025.

Homewares total LFLs jumped by +14.53% from a weak base of -5.26% for the same week in 2024, symbolising the category’s ninth consecutive positive week.

Store homewares sales climbed by +7.55% from a flat base of +0.58%, marking the category’s seventh consecutive positive week, while non[1]store sales for homewares also returned to growth this week, soaring by +21.25% and offsetting a poor base of -10.08%.

Total store LFL sales grew by +3.49% from a negative base of -1.10% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales increased by +2.99% from a base of +5.63% for the same week last year.

Commenting on the results, BDO said: “Achieving a fifth consecutive positive week, total LFL sales remained healthy due to healthy in-store and non-store sales outcomes. Fashion and homewares were mainly responsible for the LFL growth this week as both experienced positive trade in-store and online, while lifestyle dipped across channels.

“The weather this week saw a transition from late-summer warmth to cooler, more unsettled conditions, as temperatures gradually dropped, marking the shift toward early autumn. The weather for the same week last year was mild and comfortable, with occasional warmth, before gradually moving toward more autumn-like conditions.”

Overall footfall marginally declined by -0.8% this week, a drop that was largely driven by the fall in high street foot traffic (-2.8%). In contrast, shopping center footfall grew by +1.8%, while foot traffic to retail parks saw a tiny blip of +0.03%.
