Furniture imports during August 2025 decreased on the same month last year while exports from the UK rose.
According to the latest UK trade data, analysed by Big Furniture Group, total imports of furniture into Britain valued £601m in August 2025, down 2.2% from £615.3m against the same month the previous year.
Imports from the EU registered a decline of 2.6% to £266.2m from £273.4m. Imports from Italy were up 2.5% to £52.6m, while Polish imports fell 14% to £51.3m. Imports from Germany were up 1% to £44m. Notable rises came from Lithuania, up 5% to £18.1m, and from Denmark, up 28% to £11.9m.
As for outside the EU, total imports were down 1.9% to a value of £335.3m from £341.9m. Chinese imports were down 5.8% to £229.2m, while Vietnam rose by 9% to £20.3m. Imports from USA declined 6.2% to £20.1m and Turkish imports rose 8.3% to £9.2m.
Moving to exports, the total value of UK furniture leaving the country rose 13.8% to £211.2m from £185.5m year-on-year. In Europe, exports decreased by 2.4% to £86.1m from £88.3m. Exports to France increased 9.9% to £28.9m, while Irish exports were down 3.1% to £17.4m. Exports to Slovakia rose 281% to £2.2m, while to Spain, exports were up 31% to £2.7m.
Outside the EU saw exports increase 28.6% to £125m from £97.2m. Exports to China were down 9% to £2.6m, while Singapore rose 467% to £4.8m. Exports to the UAE were down 33% to £5.4m, while the USA increased 42% to £68.8m and exports to Norway rose 411% to £4.4m.
