Gary Broom, Sales, Marketing & Design Director at Sherborne Upholstery, recaps on a successful January Furniture Show.
Upholstered furniture manufacturer Sherborne Upholstery is full of optimism for the year ahead following a successful January Furniture Show (JFS) at the NEC in Birmingham.
Reflecting on the event, which saw Sherborne launch new products and fabrics, Gary hailed the show with customers taking to its new products in with great appetite. “We can only say what a great show it was for us. Our new product and fabric launches were very well received by our customers, so that has left us optimistic for the coming year ahead.”

Sherborne’s new contemporary Dakota range that was launched at the show with a cloud action on the powered range of recliners, along with a sprung fibre back. “This was said to be one of our most comfortable recliners to date, now that’s saying something,” Gary continued. “We couldn’t have been happier with the positive feedback from our customers and the sales of this popular edition to our ranges have confirmed this.
“Once again, the 2 ½ seat lounger version suits it perfectly and sits nicely alongside the very popular Leyburn range launched last year. I really anticipate that these two recliner suites will become bestsellers for years to come.”
In response and appreciation to tough times out there, Sherborne’s new competitively priced Newbury riser range, available in four sizes in both fabric and leather, was launched at the JFS and was well received, which is expected to perform strongly in the coming months. “The addition of a new handset that incorporates the Head and Lumbar feature to the cloud version on all our riser recliner ranges is also a really great addition that gives our customers more options,” Gary added.
During the show, fabrics were also a particular highlight with Sherborne introducing its new modern Florence fabric range, which was a “real winner”. “Featuring 12 colourways and soft luxurious feel, this will appeal to young and old alike,” Gary said. “To compliment this, we also launched the Andorra range, a perfect patchwork in seven fresh colourways, and again, the response was just what we were hoping for.”
For visitors that attended the Sherborne stand during JFS, they were guided to the popular Cartmel corner, which showcased a selection of the improved and extended Cartmel range in both scroll arm and knuckle versions.
“This proved to be a very busy corner and we were delighted with the reaction to the changes that we made in July, with some customers having only seen and felt these for the first time,” Gary said. “Debuting for the first time was the Leather Cartmel on four sizes of riser in both the scroll and knuckle version. The interest and sales of these were way above our expectations and has shown to be a great addition. We know this range is going to continue to be very popular.”
For Sherborne, it is full steam ahead for the coming year, as Gary concludes: “We have now completed our changeover to an Employees Ownership Trust where all our employees are invested in the Sherborne brand and the future is looking bright.”
