The rate of furniture production during January 2026 registered a monthly increase, whilethe value in domestic goods rose on the previous month and against last year.
According to the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) data, the rate of furniture production rose by 15.2% compared to December, while up 2.8% on January last year.
The value of the manufacture of furniture resulted at £776.7m, up 15.2% from £674.2m the prior month. Against the same period last year, the value increased 4.3% from £744.5m.
As for the value of furniture manufacturer exports, this increased 10.1% to £52.3m for the month from £47.5m. Against last year, exports value rose 59% from £32.7m.
The value of domestic furniture manufacture increased 15.5% to £724.4m from £626.7m in the month, while up 1.7% from £711.8m last year.
Overall, monthly GDP showed no growth in January 2026, following growths of 0.1% in December and 0.2% in November 2025. Production output is estimated to have fallen by 0.1% in January 2026, following a fall of 0.9% in December 2025, and a growth of 1.3% in November. T
Commenting on the GDP figures for the 3-months to January, ONS Director of Economic Statistics, Liz McKeown said: “Growth ticked up slightly in the latest three months, partly reflecting the recovery of car manufacturing, following the cyber incident in the Autumn. Within services, which also increased, wholesale continued to rebound from a weak summer.
“However, the overall picture remains subdued, with no growth in the latest month. There was another large fall in the construction industry in the latest three months, with continued contraction in housebuilding.”
