Furniture imports during January 2026 decreased on the same month last year while exports from the UK rose.
According to the latest UK trade data, analysed by Big Furniture Group, total imports of furniture into Britain valued £649.2m in January 2026, down 1.6% from £660.2m against the same month the previous year.
Imports from the EU registered an uptick of 3% to £268.2m from £260.4m. Imports from Italy were down 2.4% to £48.5m, while Polish imports rose 0.6% to £49.1m. Imports from Germany were down 8.2% to £41.2m, while imports from the Netherlands rose 135% to £23.1m.
As for outside the EU, total imports were down 4.7% to a value of £381m from £399.8m. Chinese imports were down 7.2% to £269.5m, while Vietnam rose by 13.5% to £21.7m. Imports from USA fell 9.2% to £16.2m.
Moving to exports, the total value of UK furniture leaving the country rose 18.8% to £208m from £175m year-on-year. In Europe, exports increased by 26% to £102.5m from £81.3m. Exports to France increased 16% to £28.4m, while Irish exports were down 15% to £16.3m. Exports to Germany rose 168% to £25.1m, while to the Netherlands, exports were up 16% to £6.3m.
Outside the EU saw exports increase 12.4% to £105.4m from £93.7m. Exports to China were down 84% to £1m, while Australia rose 77% to £3.4m. Exports to the UAE were up 26% to £11.7m, while the USA increased 58% to £55.8m.
