Homeware high street sales end March with decline

Homeware sales fell on the high street for a fourth straight week.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 3.46% for the week ending 29 March 2026.

Homewares total LFLs were down by -4.93%, from a positive base of +15.67% for the same week last year.

Store homewares sales fell by -4.15% this week, from a positive base of +2.73% for the same week last year. Non-store homewares sales grew by +3.70% this week, from a positive base of +6.17% last year.

Total store LFL sales fell by -6.52%, from a positive base of +4.62% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales fell by -8.02% this week, from a very strong base of +16.72% for the same week last year.

Commenting on the results, BDO said: “Total like-for-like (LFL) sales plunged by -7.74% this week, the largest fall since the beginning 2025, and compared to a strong base of +10.74% for the same week last year.

“This week saw sales fall across stores, non-store, and all retail categories. Across the UK, the week experienced a sharp transition from mild, settled spring weather to a colder, unsettled spell.”

Springboard figures revealed overall footfall was the lowest since the start of the year, down by -5.4% this week, led high street footfall which fell by -7.7%, followed by shopping centre footfall (-5.3%), and retail parks footfall (-0.7%).
