Carpet business suffers huge fire

Carpet business Sam Carpet Ltd has suffered a huge fire are its warehouse and storage unit in Birmingham.

On 7 January 2026 at 19.13pm, West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) were alerted to a significant fire involving a large carpet storage unit on the Tyseley Industrial Estate, Steeleys Road, Tyseley.

The fire involves 100% of the two-storey brick-built factory unit measuring approximately 100m x 40m.

14 fire engines; three hydraulic platforms; specialist units and fire officers bring the current total number of WMFS personnel on scene to over 75.

Crews worked to bring the fire under control using specialist equipment such as hydraulic platforms; aerial drones and breathing apparatus.

In a latest update from the fire service on 8 January, it said: “Eight fire engines and two hydraulic aerial platforms remain at the scene. Firefighters continue their work to fully extinguish the fire, with limited access to several areas of the building due to fire-damage.

“A comprehensive handover between night and day crews has been carried out.”

The cause of the blaze has not been confirmed.
