Family carpet business appoints administrators; ceases to trade

Family-run carpet business Adam Carpets Limited has entered administration shortly after revealing it was exploring options over its future.

Recently, the business, which is based in Greenhill Works Industrial Estate on Birmingham Road, Kidderminster, said it had experienced a significant drop in sales, citing a reduction in footfall and a negative response to the Government’s autumn budget, prompting the company to assess its position moving forward.

The business has now called in administrators, with Joph Young and Conrad Beighton, both of Leonard Curtis, appointed as joint administrators. They said that tough economic conditions had put immense pressure on the company and it had ceased trading.

They confirmed their focus was now on maximising value for the benefit of creditors.  Joph Young commented: “We are actively marketing the business and assets for sale, to include the Company’s former trading premises situated on a 6.5-acre site on the Birmingham Road, Kidderminster.”

On the appointment of administrators, Managing Director Chris Adam said: “It’s with huge sadness for all the people involved that we are announcing Adam Carpets Limited ceased trading on Thursday 20th March 2025.

“Despite the best efforts of all our colleagues, the current economic environment means that UK consumers simply do not have the confidence in their finances to buy enough of our high-quality wool-rich carpet to make our business viable right now.

“The significant increase in taxes in the government budget last October as well as the April tax increases to come both mean that this situation is getting worse.

“We therefore wish to thank suppliers, colleagues and customers for their support and enthusiasm for what we have made, sold and installed together across the generations and wish them well for the future.”

All 50 employees have been made redundant. Chris Adam added: “We are already assisting them to move forward with their plans for the future.”

Joph Young said: “We will also be engaging an employee rights agent to support employees with their claims.”
