Homeware sales fell on the high street, ending a run of eight straight weeks of positive performance.
According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 9.85% for the week ending 8 March 2026.
Homewares total LFLs edged down by -0.7% from a base of -17.92% for the same week last year.
Store homewares sales fell by -1.30% from a negative base of -22.37% for the same week last year. Non-store homewares sales grew by +3.10% this week from a negative base of -13.68% last year.
Total store LFL sales grew by +2.73% from a negative base of -9.00% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales rocketed by +18.70% this week, the best result this year, from a base of +3.26% for the same week last year.
Commenting on the results, BDO said: “The sharp growth in total LFL sales was led by strong fashion sales of +12.33%, and lifestyle sales of +7.23%.
“Interspersed with some sunny days, temperatures across the UK were generally cool to cold this week with frequent rail fall.”
Overall, footfall fell by -2.7% this week, led by high street footfall which was down by -5.5%, and shopping centre footfall which was down -0.1%. Retail park footfall saw a small increase of +0.4%.
