Commenting on the results, BDO said: “Both total in-store and total-non store sales were positive this week, with all retail segments seeing healthy results in online retail. While both channels returned positive growth, neither channel managed to offset sharply negative bases for the same week last year.

“This week saw cold weather caused by a southward move of Arctic air, resulting in temperatures dropping as low as -12°C in northern areas, alongside snow, frost, ice, and sleet. The same week last year saw wintry conditions and heavy rain, strong winds and flooding caused by Storm Bert.”

Overall footfall rose by +4.2%, an increase driven by healthy foot traffic across the board. High street footfall grew by +5.1%, while shopping centres recorded a +3.5% increase and foot traffic nudged up by +3.1% in retail parks.
