Homeware high street sales rise double-digit   

Homeware sales rose double-digit on the high street, marking a third straight week of growth.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 2.30% for the week ending 20 July 2025.

Homewares total LFLs ballooned by +18.70%, easily offsetting a negative base of +0.85% for the same week in 2024, representing the category’s third consecutive positive result and highest since the first week of April.

Store homewares sales inched up by +0.66% from a base of -1.12% for the same week last year, marking the category’s first positive result after two negative weeks, while the homewares non-store sales category achieved its first positive outcome in five weeks, a jump of +9.45% from a base of +1.17%.

Total store LFL sales rose by +1.70% from a base of +0.42% for the same week in 2024. Total non-store LFL sales jumped by +6.53% from a strong base of +15.21% for the same week last year.

Commenting on the results, BDO said: “In-store LFL sales were positive for all retail segments, marking the first time in five weeks that such has happened; nonetheless, non-store LFL results continued to outperform in-store for a third consecutive week.

“Total homewares posted double-digit growth this week, driven largely by online sales, achieving the category’s highest outcome since the first week of April.

“The UK experienced a short-lived heatwave this week before swinging from warm spells with temperatures reaching 35 °C, to cooler, fresh and stormy conditions.

“The same last year saw very similar conditions, with cool weather and showery spells, interrupted by a brief period of intense heat.”

Overall footfall slightly dropped by -0.1%, a decline that was mainly driven by results on the high streets as foot traffic fell by -2.1%. In contrast, shopping centres and retail parks saw foot traffic increase by +2.5% and +1.6% respectively.
