IKEA reveals plan to stay in Aberdeen after store closure

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has revealed plans to open a new store in Aberdeen after it previously confirmed the closure of its Wellington Circle store.

Back in October, IKEA stated that its store on Wellington Circle Retail Park, which first opened back in 2016 and has traded for nine years at the location, would close, adding it was exploring other locations to remain in the North East.

At the time, IKEA said: “We can confirm that we’ve taken the decision to close our Order and Collection Point in Aberdeen. Our commitment to the city remains and we’re currently exploring new locations in the area.

“IKEA continues to have a strong presence in Scotland, with stores in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and a new Plan and Order Point opening in Dundee in the near future.”

Now, the retailer has revealed it will open a new Plan and Order Point store in Aberdeen’s Union Square shopping centre, with the store earmarked to open in spring next year.

The new location will also offer a collection area for online orders, with customers able to return IKEA purchases to the store.

IKEA stated: “Our new Plan and Order Point format is designed to better meet the needs of our customers in Aberdeen, offering free consultations with our planning specialists to help design their dream spaces, as well as the order, collection and return services that are available in all our stores. We look forward to welcoming customers inside next year.”
