Irish furniture retail sales showed an annual decline in both volume and value during January, while on a monthly comparison, sales rose.
According to the latest Retail Sales Index data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) for January 2026, furniture and lighting sales saw an annual volume decline of -2.2%. On a monthly comparison, sales rose 0.6%.
The value of furniture and lighting retail sales increased 0.6% month-on-month, while falling by -2.5% on an annual basis.
Department stores saw annual volume rise 3.6%, while month-on-month fell -1%. As for the value, this fell -0.4% on a monthly basis, while rising by 6.1% annually.
Overall, the volume of Retail Sales increased by 1.5% in the month and by 3% in the 12 months from January 2025. The value of Retail Sales rose by 1.3% in the month and increased by 4.2% in the 12 months to January 2026.
