Furniture supplier Bentley Designs has reported a decline in turnover and profit.
According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 30 September 2024, total sales fell 12.1% to £12.3m from £14m in 2023.
Pre-tax profit resulted at £83,000, down from £516,000 recorded in the previous year.
UK sales were down to £8m from £10.4m, while overseas revenues increased to £4.2m from £3.6m.
Stated within its report, the company said: “Market conditions have significantly deteriorated as consumers face the full impact of the increase in the cost of living. Expenditure on cabinet furniture is generally discretionary and one of the first items to be deferred when consumers’ net disposable incomes are negatively affected.
“The company has been able to absorb the reduction in turnover through stringent control in overhead costs and benefitting from a more stable exchange rate and freight environment.
“The company will continue its focus on product development, new innovative designs and customer service. The directors expect the business environment to remain challenging for the foreseeable future.”
