Upholstery manufacturing group Sofa Brands International (SBI) has announced the appointment of James Thompson as its new Chief Executive Officer, commencing 1 May 2026.

James brings a wealth of experience gained in the furniture industry, having previously worked for Hjort Knudsen as Chief Commercial Officer, and as Managing Director for Ekornes, who brands include Stressless, Svane and IMG. His earlier career includes senior roles at Heal’s and Harrods, giving him a deep understanding of the retail environment.

SBI has undergone a significant period of structural transformation under interim CEO Dave Knight. The Board extends its sincere thanks to Dave for his contribution in establishing a solid platform for future growth. James will now lead the business into its next stage of development.

SBI designs, manufactures and distributes some of Britain’s most recognised and respected sofa brands, including G Plan, Parker Knoll, Duresta and The Lounge Co.. The company operates manufacturing sites in Melksham, Castlewood and Lithuania, and its products are widely available across the UK through independent retailers and national retailers such as Furniture Village, as well as in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
