This spring, The Fine Bedding Company celebrates 25 years since the opening of its pioneering Estonian Eco Factory – a milestone that marks a quarter-century of sustainable innovation, ethical manufacturing and enduring local partnerships.
Founded in April 2000, the fully owned facility has grown from a small-scale operation into a leading European manufacturing site for premium filled bedding. From its inception, the Estonian factory has embodied the values that define The Fine Bedding Company: environmentally responsible production, forward-thinking design and exceptional craftsmanship.

Over the years, the factory has achieved internationally recognised standards for environmental management. Continued investment has led to major upgrades in energy efficiency, including the recent installation of air source heat pumps to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The site now runs on 100% renewable energy and operates with zero waste practices, further strengthening its sustainability credentials.
The site is not only the beating heart of the company’s manufacturing – producing innovations such as Smartfil® fibre and SonicSeam(R) technology – but also a source of local pride. The factory now employs over 110 people, doubling its workforce in the past decade alone. Many employees have been with the business since the beginning, including two sisters, Lea and Anne Proosa, who joined in 2000 and continue to bring their skill and dedication to work every day.
As part of its long-standing commitment to the local area, the team regularly supports schools – donating educational tools such as sewing machines – and welcomes students into the factory to learn more about sustainable manufacturing in practice. The factory also champions wider community initiatives, donating bedding to elderly homes, kindergartens and local non-profit organisations, as well as supporting foster care programmes and volunteers in Ukraine.

To mark the 25th anniversary, The Fine Bedding Company will host a celebration event at the Estonian factory itself on 14th May. Attending will be the full founding family, board of directors, long-standing partners and customers, including the likes of John Lewis, as well as all Estonian staff, recognising the dedication and relationships that have shaped the company’s journey.
Claire Watkin, CEO of The Fine Bedding Company, said: “This anniversary is a celebration of our people, our innovation and our unwavering commitment to sustainable production. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in Estonia and excited about the future – continuing to invest in the local economy, create long-standing jobs and lead the way in sustainable bedding.”
