Independent beds and mattresses retailer Sussex Beds has confirmed the closure of its store in Horley.
Situated on High St, the store, which opened during January 2023, marks the second closure in just over a year since it closed its Dover location back in June 2024.
The business, which now operates a portfolio of 13 stores, put the Horley arm into liquidation following the appointment of Tom D’Arcy and Chris Latos, both of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, as joint liquidators on 21 August 2025.
Detailed in documents filed on Companies House, the Horley business owed unsecured creditors a total of £233,000, which are largely made up from other divisions within the company’s group.
Sussex Beds Centre (Distribution) Limited is owed the most, a figure of £133,000.
Commenting on the closure, Steve Pickering, CEO, said: “Sometimes stores don’t work out. This was the case with Dover last year, and this year, back in June, we made the decision to close our Horley store.
“Growth is not a straight line upward; we move forward, take a step backwards, learn, reset, and move forward again. Our business structure provides flexibility and security, as each store is set up as a separate company. The liquidation is simply a formality of the closure process.
“As with Dover, all team members have been reallocated to alternative positions within the business. We move forward stronger, wiser, and eager to pursue our plans for growth and new opportunities.”
