FIRA Publishes New Guide to Understanding Flammability Test Reports

The Furniture Industry Research Association has published a new guide, Understanding Your Furniture Test Report – Flammability Testing, to help businesses better interpret flammability test results, moving beyond a simple pass or fail assessment.

Flammability testing for upholstered furniture is governed by detailed standards and regulations. While results are often reduced to a pass or fail outcome, test reports contain important information on performance, behaviour during testing, and indicators of compliance.

The guide explains how to interpret this information and highlights that a failed test does not necessarily mean a product is unsafe, but that further analysis is needed to understand performance and identify corrective actions.

Covering areas such as ignition resistance, test methods, and report interpretation, the guide is designed to support manufacturers, retailers, and importers in making informed decisions and managing compliance.

The guide is free to FIRA members and available to non-members for £50 from the FIRA Bookshop.
