Homeware high street sales end April with strong rebound

Homeware sales rose on the high street, ending a seven-week decline.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 4.42% for the week ending 26 April 2026.

Homewares total LFLs increased by +15.87%, the best result this year, from a base of -18.03% for the same week last year.

Store homewares sales grew by +5.60% this week, from a negative base of -19.87% for the same week last year. Non-store homewares sales surged by +31.75% this week, from a negative base of -26.82% last year.

Total store LFL sales grew by +4.59% this week, ending a run of five weeks of declines, and up from a negative base of -3.53% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales increased by +7.48%, compared to a negative base of -4.14% for the same week last year.

Commenting on the results, BDO said: “This week saw positive increases across stores, non-store and all retail categories (lifestyle, fashion, and homewares).

“Across the UK, the weather was dominated by high pressure, bringing dry, calm, and mild conditions for much of the week.”

Springboard data showed overall footfall increased by +1.7% this week, driven by high street footfall of +4.3%, while shopping centre footfall fell by -1.3% and retail parks footfall also fell by -0.7%.
