Fresh from taking top honours on the inaugural Innovation Trail at this year’s Furniture Component Expo, Comfortex is enjoying a well-earned moment in the spotlight.
The award recognises forward-thinking product development – and for the Oldham-based manufacturer, it reflects a long-standing commitment to doing things differently.
Founded in 1997 by Ray Beckwith, Comfortex has grown into one of the UK’s leading independent foam converters. It remains a family-run operation, with Ray still at the helm as CEO, Nathan Beckwith as Managing Director, and the third generation joining the company in 2024.
Today, the business manufactures a wide range of mattresses, seating and upholstery products, supplying customers across multiple sectors. That breadth is reflected in its core offer, which spans medical, domestic and contract mattresses, alongside seating for sofas and the leisure industry, as well as upholstery components.
Comfortex’s customer expectations continue to evolve – but certain priorities remain constant. “Comfort, durability and value are all essential, with sustainability playing an increasingly important role in purchasing decisions,” says John Anderson, Director at Comfortex.
“Against that backdrop, we continue to position ourself as a solutions-driven supplier. The focus is not just on delivering products, but on ensuring they meet the specific needs of each customer. That approach is supported by ongoing investment in research, development and machinery – something the business sees as essential to maintaining momentum.”

Innovation is key, not just for Comfortex, but for its customers, and their customers too. This underpins how Comfortex operates and helps makes sure the company keeps moving forward.
“It’s a mindset that aligns closely with wider industry trends,” continues John. “Innovation and sustainability are now central to how products are designed, manufactured and brought to market, and Comfortex is continuing to invest time and resources into both areas as part of its long-term strategy.
“Our recent success at Furniture Component Expo is a clear example of that in action. We were named the first-ever winner of the show’s Innovation Trail Award for its Softcure cushion – a product designed to deliver a strong balance of comfort and durability, while remaining competitively priced.
“This recognition is a reflection of the work happening behind the scenes. It’s been developed to meet the needs of modern seating applications.”
Looking ahead the priorities are clear. “Comfortex will continue to focus on innovation and sustainability, while ensuring we maintain strong value for customers,” John said. “With continued investment and a clear direction of travel, we’re aiming to build on our recent success and keep pushing forward in the months ahead.”
