Furniture springs maker positions for growth

Manufacturer of furniture and bedding springs, Wade Spring, has reported a decline in turnover, although losses narrowed.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 28 September 2025, total sales fell 10% to £4.7m from £5.2m in 2024.

Pre-tax losses resulted at £490,000, narrowing from a loss of £701,000 recorded against the previous year.

UK sales represented £4.7m of revenues, down from £5.1m, while overseas sales stood at £108,000, down from £119,000.

Carl Bown, MD, commented: “Despite a challenging trading environment, Wade Spring has delivered a year of meaningful progress. While sales declined by around 10%, reflecting aggressive competition from China and Europe, weaker market demand, and a continued lack of customer confidence across the sector, we have significantly reduced our pre‑tax loss compared with the previous year.

“This improvement demonstrates the impact of the decisive actions we have taken to strengthen operational efficiency and protect the long‑term resilience of the business.

“Looking ahead, we are positioning Wade Spring for sustainable growth by diversifying into the bedding industry. We are investing heavily in advanced pocket spring machinery and establishing a dedicated wire distribution centre. These strategic developments will broaden our capabilities, enhance our competitiveness, and open new opportunities in a market where quality, reliability, and UK manufacturing still carry real weight.

“Although the trading climate remains tough, we are confident that the steps we are taking today will create a stronger, more agile Wade Spring for the future.”
