Your Sleep Matters – New Book Launch

The showroom manager of independent bed retailer Newport Beds has announced the launch of a new book focused on sleep.

Allison Timmins, author of ‘Your Sleep Matters’, said that the new book, which was officially published just a few months ago, aims to raise awareness about sleep as one of the key foundations of good health.

The inspiration came from a professional health background and a personal passion for well-being, as Allison explains: “My new book, ‘Your Sleep Matters’, launched in May 2026. Having worked in the bed industry for a while, I became increasingly aware that people often focus solely on the mattress while overlooking the many lifestyle, environmental, emotional and behavioural factors that influence sleep.

“The book aims to bridge the gap between sleep biology and practical everyday well-being, offering readers simple accessible ways to improve their sleep and overall health. Since sleep challenges continue to affect so many people, it felt like the right time to speak up and bring these ideas together into a book that empowers people to take ownership of their sleep health.”

The book forms a natural step for Allison after helping customers over the last few years improve sleep through better sleep products and advice. Being at the centre of engaging with customers about sleep and health through Shropshire-based Newport Beds, Allison’s professional background has also been fundamental to the development of the book.

“Alongside my work in the bed industry, I have a long-standing background in health, particularly in holistic well-being and complementary therapies. My professional background includes nursing, reflexology, colour therapy, Reiki teaching and well-being education.

“Currently I’m combining my industry experience with my passion for health and well-being through writing. My goal is to create a series of practical books that help people improve their quality of life through better sleep, energy and well-being habits.

“My primary aim is to raise awareness that sleep is one of the foundations of good health. I hope readers leave with a greater understanding of how sleep impacts their energy, mood, resilience, productivity and long-term well-being.

“I also want people to see their bed and bedroom environment differently. A bed is not simply a piece of furniture, it is where we spend roughly a third of our lives recovering, restoring and preparing for the day ahead.”

Allison added that the response so far has been “very encouraging”. “I’ve received positive feedback from early readers who appreciate the practical and easy to understand approach. Many people have told me the book has helped them to think differently about sleep and recognise habits that may be affecting their rest.

“Customers and colleagues within the bed industry who recognise the growing importance of sleep, have also shown strong interest.”

Not resting with one published book, Allison is already working on her next title, ‘The Bed as a Health Tool’, and aims to release it by September in time for this year’s NBF Bed Show. “This book expands on many themes introduced by ‘Your Sleep Matters’ and explores the role the sleep environment plays in supporting overall health and well-being,” Allison revealed.

“It looks at topics such as recovery, comfort, temperature regulation, bedroom design, lifestyle habits and the growing connection between sleep and long-term health benefits.

“I believe the bed industry has an important opportunity to help shift the conversation from simply selling beds to supporting healthier lives. We spend approximately 1/3 of our lives in bed (26 years!!) yet many people underestimate the impact that sleep quality has on physical health, mental well-being and daily performance.

“If ‘Your Sleep Matters’ encourages even a small number of people to prioritise sleep and recognise its value then the book will have achieved its purpose. I’d also be happy for retailers to buy copies directly from me to sell if any are interested too. Please do reach out.”
