Retailer recalls mattress toppers over fire safety concerns

Homeware and furnishings retailer BHS has issued a product recall on two ranges of mattress enhancer products over fire safety concerns.

In a notice by the Office for Product Safety and Standards, the product recall is for the BHS Lyocell Mattress Enhancers and also the BHS Plush Mattress Enhancers.

The product, which origin remains unknown, are described as ‘white detachable mattress toppers/enhancers in various sizes including single, double, king and super king’. They were sold from dates ranging between February 2023 to February 2026.

A statement said: “The products present a risk of fire as they do not meet UK flammability requirements. If the product is exposed to an ignition source the filling and cover material could catch fire and continue to flame.

“The products do not meet the requirements of the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988. The products have been recalled from end users.

“Consumers who own an affected mattress topper / enhancer should stop using it immediately. Please remove the product from your bed and email the customer service team at helpdesk@cascadehl.com to arrange a return and full refund.”
