Argos sees volume growth as Home performs well

Supermarket group Sainsbury’s, owners of furniture brand Habitat and catalogue retailer Argos, has reported a growth in first quarter sales.

According to its first quarter trading statement for the 16 weeks to 20 June 2026, total group sales rose 4.3% to £10.4bn from £10bn in 2025. Argos sales were down 0.5% to £1.1bn.

Argos did experience encouraging volume growth of 2.2% despite tough comparative of sustained warm and dry weather last year, while lower sales in core seasonal categories were offset by growth in Home and Toys.

During the period, Argos added over 5,000 new products with a total of 26,000 products through its Extended Supplier Direct Fulfilled range. It is on track to launch Marketplace later this financial year.

“Our Argos transformation plan is driving improvements to choice, availability and service. These contributed to encouraging volume growth in the quarter, offset by the impact of subdued consumer spending on average selling price, with sales down 0.5%,” the group said.
