Dura Beds begins new chapter under full family ownership

Dura Beds has announced the completion of a significant milestone in its history, with Imran Akhtar and his family now taking full ownership of the business.

The move signals the start of an ambitious new chapter, underpinned by substantial investment, operational development and an exciting pipeline of product innovation.

The Yorkshire-based manufacturer, which has built a strong reputation for supplying quality beds and mattresses to retailers throughout the UK over the last 29 years, says the new ownership structure provides a clear platform for long-term growth while maintaining the family values that have been at the heart of the business.

With a renewed focus on investment, Dura Beds has already embarked on an extensive programme of improvements across its manufacturing and operational infrastructure.

The company is investing in state-of-the-art production machinery, expanding and modernising its transport fleet, and implementing significant upgrades to its internal business systems. These developments are designed to increase manufacturing capacity, improve efficiencies and further enhance customer service as demand continues to grow.

The investment comes at a time when the business is also strengthening its position within the UK bedding industry. Dura Beds has recently completed its latest National Bed Federation (NBF) audit, successfully achieving the highest A Rating Certification, reflecting the company’s commitment to quality, compliance and manufacturing excellence.

Imran Akhtar, Owner of Dura Beds, said: “Taking full ownership of Dura Beds is an incredibly proud moment for my family and me. We have a clear vision for the future—one built on continuous investment, innovation and long-term partnerships with our customers. Our ambition is to strengthen every area of the business, from manufacturing and logistics to customer service and product development, ensuring Dura Beds continues to set the standard for quality and value within the UK bedding industry.”

The strengthened ownership structure is complemented by an expanded leadership team, with Sales Director Paul Mason leading the company’s commercial strategy. Together, the leadership team is focused on driving growth through new product development, retailer support and continued investment in people and infrastructure.

Paul Mason commented: “The level of investment being made across Dura Beds demonstrates the ambition of the business. Every decision is being made with our retail partners in mind—whether that’s improving service levels, increasing manufacturing capability or developing products that genuinely stand out in today’s marketplace.

“This is only the beginning. We have some incredibly exciting developments planned over the coming months, including what we believe will be our strongest and most innovative product launch to date. Retailers can expect collections that combine premium comfort, advanced sleep technologies and outstanding value, backed by the service and support that Dura Beds has become known for.”

The first of these developments will be unveiled later this year with the launch of a completely new mattress collection, described by the company as its most ambitious range to date. Designed to reflect changing consumer demand for premium comfort, innovative sleep technologies and sustainable materials, the new collection represents a significant step forward in both product design and brand positioning.

Alongside continued investment in manufacturing technology, transport and digital systems, the business says it remains committed to supporting independent retailers through exclusive product development, enhanced point-of-sale solutions and improved customer service.

As Dura Beds enters this new era of family ownership, the message from the business is clear: investment, innovation and long-term partnerships will remain at the centre of its strategy.

With strong foundations, ambitious plans and a clear vision for the future, Dura Beds believes it is well positioned for continued growth as it looks ahead to the next phase of its journey.
