Family carpet business reopens to mark next chapter

Independent carpet retailer City Carpet Solutions Ltd has announced the reopening of its store in Southampton.

Situated at Shirley Avenue, the business officially reopened on 1 June 2026, bringing the company back in the hands of the Woolley family that has served the community for over 60 years.

City Carpet Solutions Ltd is now run by siblings Claire O’Leary and Ben Woolley – the grandchildren of Kenneth Woolley, who established the original business after moving from Derby in the 1950s.

The move follows the collapse of Direct Carpets Hampshire, which left some customers out of pocket and caused confusion around the long-established Woolley family name.

Commenting on the relaunch, the company said: “We would like to welcome both our loyal customers and new faces through our doors. We are incredibly excited to be opening today and look forward to serving you all once again.

“As we begin this new chapter, we would like to pay tribute to our Grandad, who founded our family business in 1958. His hard work, dedication, and commitment to the community created the legacy we are proud to continue today.

“I feel extremely privileged to have been able to sit in my shop today and welcome so many loyal customers through the door. Hearing your memories and stories of my grandad and my dad, and the many years they spent trading, has meant so much to me.

“A huge heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you for your continued support, kindness, and for sharing those special memories.”
