Home furnishings retailer Dunelm has issued a product recall on an electric blanket due to fire safety concerns.
In a notice by the Office for Product Safety and Standards, the product recall is for the Dunelm Warm and Cosy Electric Blanket Cables, which originates from China and is described as “cables supplied with electric blanket in single, double and king size with inline control units”.
Only blankets from the 2022 and 2023 batches are currently in scope of this corrective action.
A statement said: “The product presents a risk of fire because the copper wire within the cable can fray. This may cause localised overheating and fire during normal use.
“The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. Dunelm have initiated a cable replacement programme for affected batches.”
