Furniture manufacturer Furl has announced that it is officially a Certified B Corporation.
B Corp certification is awarded by B Lab, an independent non-profit, after a rigorous assessment of how a business behaves across every part of its operation – how it treats its people, its suppliers and makers, its customers, its community and the environment.
Furl, which was founded by David Norman, scored 85.1, comfortably clear of the 80 needed to certify, and well above the global median of 50.9.
“The assessment is demanding by design,” the company said. “It looks past what a company says about itself and examines what it actually does: where materials come from, how workers are treated, how decisions are made, and whether the business is genuinely accountable for its impact.
“Certification has to be re-earned over time, not kept indefinitely. In short, it’s a way of proving — to an independent standard — that a business is built to do more than make money.
“For a small team making furniture by hand in Nottingham, it’s a milestone we’re quietly proud of. It’s a formal recognition of the way we’ve always tried to work.
