Furniture imports during May 2026 increased on the same month last year while exports from the UK also rose.
According to the latest UK trade data, analysed by Big Furniture Group, total imports of furniture into Britain valued £754.1m in May 2026, up 3.5% from £728.4m against the same month the previous year.
Imports from the EU registered a decline of 4.8% to £307.8m from £323.5m. Imports from Italy were down 21.7% to £59.7m, while Polish imports rose 2% to £54.8m. Imports from Germany were down 2.6% to £52m, while imports from Spain rose 38.9% to £14.6m.
As for outside the EU, total imports were up 10.2% to a value of £446.3m from £404.9m. Chinese imports were up 4.3% to £299.9m, while Vietnam rose by 9% to £26.7m. Imports from USA rose 75% to £33.7m.
Moving to exports, the total value of UK furniture leaving the country rose 7.7% to £225.4m from £209.1m year-on-year. In Europe, exports increased by 3% to £101.4m from £98.3m. Exports to France decreased 12% to £27.7m, while Irish exports were down 1% to £19.8m. Exports to Germany rose 50% to £17m, while to Czechia, exports were up 96% to £3.7m.
Outside the EU saw exports increase 11.9% to £124m from £110.7m. Exports to China were down 65% to £1.8m, while Japan rose 56% to £2m. Exports to Saudi Arabia rose 8% to £2.3m, while the USA increased 49% to £72.7m.
