The Sceptical Sleeper: Why We Test, Then Test Again

Mattress brand HIGGYS highlights the importance of testing and why they welcome the sceptics.

Most people who end up looking at HIGGYS have already been disappointed. They’ve bought the memory foam mattress that promised pressure relief and woke up just as stiff. They’ve spent four figures on a “luxury” hybrid and still reach for a hot water bottle for their back. They’ve read “clinically proven” on enough packaging to stop believing it means anything.

This scepticism isn’t a marketing problem to overcome with louder claims. It’s a reasonable response to an industry that tests once, claims forever, and rarely revisits either.

HIGGYS was built differently from the start. Our first range is built around Healthcare Engineered Foam, designed for healthcare use and tested for pressure relief, spinal alignment, and temperature regulation. It’s the same foam used in beds across medical and performance environments, independently tested by SATRA for heat dissipation and pressure performance, and developed alongside BackCare. Every material in a HIGGYS mattress has to prove it supports a more aligned sleeping position, pressure relief and temperature control, the three pillars of what we call the Recovery Standard. If it can’t, it doesn’t go in.

But proving that once isn’t enough, not for a customer who has been let down before, and not for us.

That’s why testing isn’t a one-off event for HIGGYS. We continually test our materials to make sure they continue to deliver, checking performance against today’s standards as those standards evolve, with the latest round of testing happening as we speak.

As Mike Nash, founder of HIGGYS, puts it: “We never stop testing. The latest round is happening as we speak, because sceptical customers deserve proof that’s current, not historical.”

For the customer, this matters because it changes what “tested” means. It’s not a badge earned at launch and left to fade. It’s an ongoing check that the product on the shelf today performs the way the brand says it does, today.

For retailers, particularly those weighing up a new health and recovery category on an already crowded floor, this matters for a different reason. A brand that revisits its own claims, rather than defending them indefinitely, is a brand less likely to generate returns, complaints or awkward conversations six months after a sale. It signals an active programme behind the product, not a single launch moment.

That’s the gap HIGGYS sits in. Not louder claims than the rest of the market, but claims that are checked, rechecked, and open to scrutiny on an ongoing basis.

No gimmicks. Just materials that work, tested, then tested again.
